Early Years Support Centre

A place for Early Childhood Educators to find support, resources, and to share ideas.

The Early Years Support Centre at Jane Norman College supports the Early Learning and Child Care Community. We provide professional development opportunities through on-site workshops as well as in other locations in our region. We welcome suggestions and ideas for future workshop topics.

Russell Resource Library

Early childhood educators are welcomed and encouraged to come to Truro to visit the Russell Resource Library which has a large collection of professional resources and children’s books available for borrowing.

Remida Centre at Jane Norman College

Early childhood educators should also come to visit our Remida Centre.  The Remida Centre was inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to Early Childhood Education whereby materials that would normally be thrown away could be re-used and re-purposed.  The Remida Centre is a place where early childhood educators can come to borrow loose parts for children to use in their play. These loose parts also often referred to as intellectual materials promote critical thinking, problem solving and lets children’s natural inquisitiveness shine.

Early childhood educators are also welcome to bring a group of children to explore loose parts on site. To book a time contact Jane MacKenzie at 902-893-3342.

The Pyramid Model

The Pyramid Model for Promoting Social Emotional Competence in Infant and Young Children provides a framework of evidence-based practices for promoting social-emotional and behavioural development specifically developed for use in early childhood care and learning environments.  For infant, toddler, and preschoolers, it is a 3- tiered intervention framework of evidence-based practices that support children’s development. It utilizes a universal approach with interventions for children who require additional support.

Through Program-Wide Implementation of the Pyramid Model evidence-based practices, the Pyramid Model Coach provides professional development and program coaching to build the capacity of early childhood educators and childcare centers.
