Provincial and Canada Student Loans

Students accepted in our full-time programs can apply for government student loans.  Nova Scotia students wishing to apply for student loans can obtain an application form from their high school guidance counsellor or by contacting:

Students who are not residents of Nova Scotia can obtain government student loan applications by contacting their provincial department of education.  Loan forms cannot be signed by an authorized official of the Institute until the applicable registration date.  Instructors are not permitted to sign student forms.

Please note that government student loan regulations state that students must maintain their full-time student status throughout the academic year.  Students who drop courses or do not attend on a regular basis may be ineligible to receive student loans or keep their interest-free status under the Canada Student Loan Program.

Internal Scholarships
Achievement can come in many forms: academic, practical, or personal.  At Jane Norman College we like to recognize achievement.  As you can see below we have monetary awards, awards recognized publicly, and awards to inspire students to go on to higher levels of education.

Full-time Diploma Students applying from high school

The Dr Jane Norman Entrance Scholarships

Available to ECE & YW high school applicants for full-time program in Truro who have met the criteria
Award Between $500 and $1250 for tuition
Criteria Solid academic transcript & good recommendation from a guidance counsellor
Process for Scholarship Each FT entrance application is reviewed by the Academic Review Committee and any awards are determined by the Committee
Announcement/Communication of Award The Guidance Counselor at the student’s school is contacted and the student is contacted prior to Graduation

Depending on the school and the timing the scholarship may be announced at the student’s graduation

Honor Roll

Available to ECE,YW, PSPA or Special Education students
Award Honor Roll certificates
Criteria Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
Process for Honor Roll Determined by student marks
Announcement/Communication of Award FT students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher will be announced at Student Recognition Night in February

FT and PT students who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher upon Graduation have the achievement noted in their permanent file and on their diploma/or certificate

Merit Award

Available to FT ECE,YW, PSPA or Special Education students
Award Merit certificate
Criteria Students must have exhibited positive personal traits towards peers, college and their community.
Process for Merit Award Awards determined by faculty and staff of Jane Norman College by 31 January
Announcement/Communication of Award FT students names will be announced at Student Recognition Night in February and the achievement is noted in the student’s permanent file

Part-Time Students
The Dr Jane Norman Part-time Student Scholarships

Available to ECE & Teacher Assistant applicants having completed at least 50% of a part-time program held in any location who have met the criteria
Award Between $500 and $1000 for tuition
Criteria Solid academic transcript & need based assessment
Process for Scholarship Student must complete application form and write a letter outlining why they should receive the scholarship

Each letter is reviewed by the Academic Review Committee and any awards are determined by the Committee

Announcement/Communication of Award The student will receive a letter announcing receipt of the award in January
Timeline Paid out in 2nd semester
Graduation Awards and Recognition

All Students

Carmen F. Moir Citizenship Award

Available to Graduating students both FT and PT
Award Letter of Achievement and students’ names permanently engraved on award
Criteria Students must have exhibited a positive attitude and temperament, good work habits and perseverance in the pursuit of goals, a sense of responsibility, considerate relationships with others, and leadership qualities.
Process for Award Awards determined by faculty and staff of Jane Norman College by 15 May
Announcement/Communication of Award FT and PT students’ names will be announced at Graduation Banquet and at Convocation. The achievement is noted in the students’ permanent file

Available to Graduating students
Award Letter of Achievement and student’s name permanently engraved on award
Criteria Student must have embraced all aspects of life and openly shared kindness and knowledge, advocates for peaceful solutions and has improved life in their community
Process for Award Awards determined by faculty and staff of Jane Norman College by 15 May
Announcement/Communication of Award Student’s name will be announced at Graduation Banquet and at Convocation. The achievement is noted in the students’ permanent file

ECE Diploma & Youth Worker Students

The Kim Kienapple Scholarship

Available to Graduating ECE or Youth Worker student
Award $750.00 for tuition
Criteria Graduating student must be pursuing an undergraduate degree from Mount Saint Vincent University.

Solid transcript and good character as determine by the Academic Review Committee.

Process for Scholarship Student must apply by writing a letter outlining why they should receive the scholarship

Each letter is reviewed by the Academic Review Committee and any awards are determined by the Committee

The Johnson-MacIntosh Scholarship

Available to Graduating ECE or Youth Worker student
Award $750.00 for tuition
Criteria Graduating student must be pursuing a Special Education Diploma at Jane Norman College.

Process for Scholarship Student must apply by writing a letter outlining why they should receive the scholarship.
